JULIAN, CALIFORNIA
The small mountain community of Julian, California is located approximately 60 miles north-east of San Diego at the north end of the Cuyamaca Mountain Range. Julian was founded in 1870 after the discovery of gold responsible for San Diego County's first and only Gold Rush. Julian is an official California Historical Landmark and the charm of the old west is evident everywhere from carriage rides down Main Street lined with antique shops, art galleries and craft shops to historic sites and turn of the century architecture.
Julian is world famous for it's locally grown apples, apple cider and the best baked apple pie you'll ever taste. A favorite event, dating back to the early 1900's, is the Julian Apple Festival with activities through-out the month of October. Several Vineyards dot the landscape producing a variety of locally produced wines and offer wine tasting for the discriminating pallet. Cuyamaca Lake is a short drive through Oak and Pine trees offering boating, fishing, hiking and many other outdoor activities.
